The Department performs the following functions:
- Advises the Municipal Assembly on the formulation and implementation of Urban Road Policies in line with regional and national frameworks.
- Collects and analyzes data to support the planning, development, and improvement of urban road infrastructure in the Municipality.
- Establishes and maintains a comprehensive database on urban road and related infrastructure within the Municipality.
- Registers and maintains records of classified contractors and consultants operating in the urban road construction and maintenance industry in the Municipality.
- Facilitates the prioritization of road works and the preparation of annual infrastructure development and maintenance plans.
- Assists in the preparation of tender documents and participates in tender evaluation processes for urban road projects.
- Prepares and submits progress reports and annual reports on urban road works in the Municipality.
- Provides technical input into the preparation of budgets for road maintenance and rehabilitation activities.
- Monitors and ensures that funds from the Road Fund and other sources are utilized strictly for designated roads and in accordance with approved standards.
- Assists in the evaluation and review of road designs prepared by consultants to ensure compliance with required specifications.
- Facilitates capacity building and training for contractors, consultants, and other key stakeholders involved in urban road development within the Municipality.
